Rubin Museum of Art Remembrance Poetry

The Rubin Museum of Art Remembrance Poetry, which can be accessed from the computers in the gallery in a space called the “Explore Area,” invites visitors to compose a poem inspired by the exhibition. The poem can share memories of a person who has passed away, explore the nature of dying or mourning, or consider how one would like to be remembered. Visitors are also able to read poems contributed by others. This gives visitors the opportunity to reflect and share personally on the exhibition. The contributed poems have been thoughtful and a very interesting mixture of personal, profound, and silly. Many visitors have incorporated imagery and ideas from the exhibition into their poems, as well as their personal experience.
