Discussing the 2010 Horizon Report: Museum Edition

A few weeks ago, MIDEA released the 2010 Horizon Report: Museum Edition. This watershed edition of the annual Horizon Report series is the first of a new annual series that MIDEA will produce in partnership with the NMC.  Each edition will consider emerging technologies as they may be uniquely applied in museum settings — and the constraints and opportunities that each affords.

Larry Johnson and Holly Witchey will be on hand to discuss the findings with a focus on the key trends and challenges for museums.

We hope the report will spark discussion among museum leaders, practitioners, and staff about how cultural institutions might think about emerging technology.  The new report identifies and describes six emerging technologies that are likely to have a significant impact on museum education and interpretation over the next five years.  Also included are the major trends driving and challenges impeding their adoption. Each highlighted technology is examined from a practitioner’s perspective, and the discussions include sections on relevance to museum education and interpretation, benchmark projects incorporating the technologies, and key readings intended to allow interested readers to learn much more.

The electronic version of the report, which has been released under a Creative Commons license, is available for download at http://www.nmc.org/pdf/2010-Horizon-Museum.pdf.  Please feel free to copy or distribute this version broadly.

This event is free and open to the public. Please forward this invitation to your colleagues. The  Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation sponsored the report and the upcoming webinar. We thank them for their generous support.
